Not by bread alone.

When Satan approached Christ during his 40-day fast, he tempted Jesus to command that stones be made into bread. Christ replied, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Christ fasted to commune with his father. It was an incredible example of how our sacrifices can bring us closer to God. Sacrifices allow us to be in a more spiritually receptive state.

When we are in a more spiritually receptive state, we are able to hear God’s guidance for us more clearly. We will then be able to live by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God, whether that word is through scripture, or through the Holy Spirit.

If Christ made sacrifices to receive guidance and direction from God, shouldn’t we do the same?

What sacrifice can we make to become closer to God? A sacrifice doesn’t have to be fasting. It could be an offering of money, or time, or service. It could even be a break from something we enjoy.

God knows who we are, and what we are struggling with. He knows the details of our circumstances, and the challenges that we face.

If we follow the Savior’s example and make sacrifices in our lives, our Father in Heaven will provide the guidance and blessings that we are in need of.

Wishing you a beautiful day!
